What do you do to rid your yard/garden of rabbits?

Each year one rabbit will dig a hole in my front yard and give birth to 5-7 bunnies. I’m never sure what to do with them. Twice I got rid of them but was unsure of the legality of that. This year I left them alone and after a week they left the hole. But now I’ve got a new generation of rabbits running around. Oh how I would be tempted to get a bb gun. What’s the law by you on that type of thing?
Moth balls don’t seem to do the trick.
I tried a little rat poison around the hole before the bunnies were born, but that didn’t work. Probably questionable legally too.

Is killing rabbits acceptable use for using a pellet gun to protect your property?
